OUR BAND... Then and Now Twenty five years ago, Bill Stusak, a retired professional trombonist, teacher, and music store owner from Cedar Rapids, Iowa started the Lake County Dance Orchestra. In the early 1980's the band primarily played for dances and membership was open to all who could attend the weekly rehearsals. After 14 years, Bill passed the baton to George Kregling. An accomplished saxophone and xylophone player, George had his own band and worked for many years in his home state of Connecticut. After retiring to Florida, George led the Lake County Dance Orchestra for 9 years before passing the baton to Larry Lutte. Larry retired to Central Florida after successful careers in music education and business. Along
with change in leadership came a new name and a list of broader objectives.
Today, LC Swing Big Band performs in concert and for dances throughout Central Florida. The band is made up of talented area musicians dedicated to achieving a high level of performance. Each year, the band invites a professional musician to be featured in their “LC Swing & Friends” concert. With revenues from the concert the band provides a scholarship to an outstanding high school senior musician planning to continue their studies in the fine arts.
